An oddball Western love story, Gil Ford stationed in Vietnam finds a young woman who has been badly wounded during a fierce skirmish. Tran Thi Linh has been discarded by both sides and Gil Ford, a compassionate man, decides to bring her back to his home town in eastern Wyoming.  Murder, mayhem, kidnapping, and vandalism are part of the landscape. Gil begins to realize that  Tran has an uncanny ability to read people, their motives and their unsavory violent ambitions. In the end, Tran has become a criminal justice legend and Gil is rewarded in many ways.
